Street Photography - Capturing Tbilisi’s Spirit

Workshop with Natan Dvir

Natan Dvir, New York, Times Square

Every city in the world has a unique character and endless opportunities of capturing fascinating pictures along its streets that serve as a stage for a variety of unique characters and situations. In this workshop students will focus on capturing the special personality and vibe of Tbilisi while developing their street photography techniques. By combining lectures in class, hands-on photography, and photo critiques, we will cover topics like photographing strangers, identifying photographic potential, equipment choices, lens selection, creative usage or existing light and fill-in flash, daytime vs. evening photography, capturing candid moments, and creating multi-layered images. Photographs and projects of masters and contemporary photographers will be discussed.

Day 1
We will begin with reviewing the history of street photography and presenting the work of the masters. After discussing approaches to photographing strangers and main technical considerations, we will continue with photographing in the streets of Tbilisi while completing various assignments.

Day 2
We will start the day with photographing additional assignments around Tbilisi. After lunch we will return to class to review and critique the pictures that were photographed. We will conclude the day with reviewing the work of contemporary photographers and discussing different personal styles.

Students are expected to present their existing portfolio, complete assignments in the field, edit their work after and present it for critique in class.
